CASS-BLACKMER MANSION
975 EAST 7TH AVENUE
Architectural style: Colonial Revival
Built: 1908
Cost: $20,000

Architect: Unknown

The widow of Colorado Fuel & Iron's Alfred Curtis Cass, Mary Ashton Cass, built this red brick home. It was said to be the finest Colonial Revival in the West when it was built. The second owner was flamboyant attorney Henry Blackmer, who built the $5,000 wrought-iron fence and lavishly redecorated the interior. An alleged bootlegger, multimillionaire Blackmer was also suspected of other illegal business dealings.

Saco Deboer's landscape design included a reflecting pool, photographed ca. 1924. Photo: O. E. Lindevall, Denver Public Library, Western History Department.
