FaithAction
recently received grants from the State Historical Fund, the Rose
Community Foundation and the Annie E. Casey Foundation through their
Neighborhood Transformation and Family Development Initiative. With
these funds, we are building our capacity to give technical assistance
to sacred places. FaithAction has established its resource center.
We have many resources to which stewards of historic sacred places
can refer for their preservation needs. A list of the materials
is available on our Web site. A copy of the collection is in the
Denver Public Library in the Western History and Genealogy Dept.
FaithAction
gives technical assistance to the Four Hundred Thirty-Year Church
of God in Christ in the San Rafael National Register Historic District.
The church, with its gothic spire that stands above the neighborhood,
was built in 1983. It is in a state of deferred maintenance. We
just received funds to do a historic structural assessment on the
building to address preservation needs. We also are applying for
a grant on their behalf for some urgent roof repairs. In addition,
FaithAction is giving technical assistance to South Broadway Christian
Church on 23 Lincoln St. to apply for a structural assessment grant
to prioritize their preservation needs. Both of these building house
numerous community programs. By securing each building's needs,
we will ensure the continuity of vital community services.
