Last year marked the 30th anniversary of Historic Denver and we
reflected on many of our past accomplishments. This year has spurred
us to consider how these successes are laying the groundwork for
an exciting future for the

The
Year in Review
In 2001, with the support of SCFD and Historic Denvers many
friends, our organization became a national leader, placing Denver
at the forefront of the preservation movement. We expanded our efforts
to preserve neighborhoods, city buildings, schools, and, for the
first time, places of worship. We increased and improved our educational
programming at the Molly Brown House Museum. We produced a new series
of videos on Denvers history. Last, but not least, we brought
new players together to develop a unified vision for saving Denvers

The
2001 Ann Love Award
The Ann Love award was established in 1997 by the former first lady
of Colorado to recognize new achievement in historic preservation
and to encourage continued support from our community. This years

Evans
School Designated
In a great display
of solidarity, City Councilman Ed Thomas announced on December 3,
2001 that all nine Council Members present were prepared to join
hands and sing Kumbaya over their unanimous support
for the long awaited local landmarking of Evans School. Read

Modernism
Bites the Bullet
The
time is now for the design and preservation communities to work
together to identify recent works we must not lose and to engage
their owners in a proactive discussion about the future of these
important buildings. This advocacy should keep us well focused on
our mission to preserve Denver’s distinctive architecture. The 20th
century is now part of our history and worthy of our attention and
action.

Energy
Efficiency as a Wartime Effort
For many of us, trying to increase energy efficiency seems like
a natural action, but somewhat confusing. Many small changes can
be made that won’t affect the architectural integrity of a home.
Turning the thermostat down 1 degree can save approximately 3% off
your heating bill. Turning off lights as you leave rooms, microwaving
foods and washing laundry only when you have a full load can also

Happenings
The Colorado History Museum’s Stephen H. Hart Research Library,
one of the premier institutions for the study of Western American
history, will close temporarily for a major renovation. The National
Trust for Historic Preservation is pleased to announce the creation
of the Bill and Carol Gossard Preservation Services Fund for Colorado.
