Denver Gospel Church is a small church built in 1909 by Swedish Lutherans on the Boarder of the Cole and Whiter neighborhoods on 32nd , now Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Gilpin. They sold the church to Denver Gospel, a predominantly African American congregation, in the early 1950s when their congregation moved to a suburban location.

The congregation contacted us concerning their severely buckling stained glass windows. We pointed them to a stained glass restoration specialist and are now looking at fundraising strategies to help raise the large sum required for the restoration. Sacred Landmarks Preservation assisted Denver Gospel in getting a State Historic Fund historic structural assessment grant and becoming listed on the Colorado Register for Historic Places.

The Cole neighborhood is one of Denver's struggling inner-city communities. Faith Action has been participating in a program called Making Connections that brings service providers together to help find solutions to the severe poverty, crime and social problems in neighborhoods such as this one. The church responds to the community needs with a Food and Clothing Bank, Youth Club, Prison Outreach Ministries, Ladies' and Men's Fellowship, Neighborhood Bible Studies, and Tutoring
