Merritt United Methodist Church
2246 Irving Street
Denver, CO 80211
303-433-7577

Built
in 1902 by the architect F.E. Kidder. This was the only church in
Denver at the time that had an interior brick finish. The church
has a large geometrical four-sectioned glass window with a lancet
arch and six pointed arches that was imported from Italy. There
are seven other single lancet style stained glass windows. As the
church celebrates their 100th anniversary this year they are beginning
a campaign to restore the steeple to its original glory.
Members
of Merritt Memorial Church have been active in the community despite
the small membership of the church. Merritt members have participated
in tutoring at the local elementary school, community sports programs,
assisted with area food banks, supported Brandon House, a safe-house
for battered women, was a member of the Stadium Committee and the
Sloan Lake Neighborhood Group.
