Frank Edbrooke of Chicago designed the church on 17th and Sherman at the same time he was designing and working on the Brown Palace down the street. The church was dedicated on Christmas day 1892.

The church hosts a children's visitation program, tutoring program, and a homeless shelter for working men providing vocational training and drug and alcohol counseling.
