HISTORIC DENVER IS COMMITTED TO ADVANCING DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSIVITY, AND ACCESS
Historic Denver started as a grassroots preservation organization in 1970, and for over fifty years has saved some of Denver’s most beloved historic buildings and places. Traditionally, however, historic preservation has failed to tell inclusive stories. Historic Denver is committed to advancing the stories and histories of all people in our community and to elevating the field of preservation and local history. We commit to greater diversity, equity, awareness and inclusivity and access for people with appreciation for race, ethnicity, religion, gender, ability, and identification.
LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
As a place-focused organization, Historic Denver is intrinsically tied to the land. The stories of this land are incomplete without acknowledgement and consideration of its whole history and its hard truths. We acknowledge and honor that our work takes place on the traditional territories and ancestral homelands of the Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Ute Nations. This was also an important site of trade for numerous other Native tribes. We recognize the Indigenous Peoples as the original stewards of the land, water, plants, and animals who called this place home. We respect the many diverse Indigenous Peoples still connected to this land on which we gather. This commits each of us to continuing to learn how to be better stewards of the land we inhabit and find ways to work with Indigenous Peoples to share their stories.
