Join us to explore one of the oldest parts of Denver. The Town of Highlands, incorporated in 1875 and was promoted as having clean air, clean water and high morals. On the hill above Denver’s smog of coal smoke, it featured artesian wells and no watering holes, there were no saloons in Highlands until after Prohibition. Many doctors came to Highlands to open sanitariums for those with tuberculosis. Explore the mansions, bungalows, cottages and foursquares, uncover the families who lived here in late 1800s and early 1900s. Tour begins and ends at the Patrick McGowan house, 2633 W. 37th Avenue, just west of the Lumber Baron mansion. It is a 1.5 mile, level walk.
