Gender Identity Center, 3715 W. 32nd
The Gender Identity Center founded in 1978 provided a community center and safe space for transexual and transvestite people. In 1983, the organization began operating out of 3715 W. 32nd, the permanent location allowed the center to develop a “home-style” meeting space where everyone would feel comfortable. They offered vital services to its members, including support groups, information, and counseling. It operated out of this address until 1994.
Action
We worked with local historian Lee Bishop to publish a wonderful article looking into the history of the Gender Identity Center. That story served as the cover for our Summer 2024 edition of Historic Denver News.
